Role of the artists in Contemporary world

Uthit Atimana

How could a skeptic artist who obsessive-compulsively suspect the true value, distinction and passion of contemporary artistic tradition for his entire life, call his latest work an Exhibition of diversity, confusion and insecurity of the art world?

Perceive

The observer will perceive two interpretations of Uthit’s point of view about social changes in different period of his life.

I. Angkrit defined Uthit’s as a man who try to evaluate the meaning and value of social civilization in our modern context. He saw Uthit’s scholastic observation, research, discussion as the procedures to achieve that point. Angkrit communicated through painting-like works, they composed of alphabets and diagrams that quoted from Uthit’s work and he explained in his unconventional style.

II. Wanachai Wongtala focused on Uthit’s lectures which played a very different role from scholar, art critic, industrial product developer, media and culture instructor and graphic designer. He expressed in graphic-like media with some retouching software.

Conceive

The observer will conceive some concepts from individual interpretation and insight contemplation.

(a.) Demarcation of Self as a specialist creator in part of team that organized this exhibition.

(b.) Defiant ideology about critical artistic expression. The artists don’t approve the contemporary art tradition that consist of specialist in specific area, evaluation, history, references, ritual, observer, critic, limited stage for artist etc., which distinctively separate art from the real life. This exhibition proves to be one of the variety art expression that could be a discursive practice in ordinary life that connect esthetic knowledge and ethic behavior. Furthermore it should be one documentary art exhibition that takes place in our society.

(c.) The exhibition will be a reflexion of modern Self : pointless, unplanned, unoccupied, imperfect, unfaithful in spiritual life, god, origin sin, destiny etc. “Self that could be created with our own hands” ,but is under control of social norm, space-time and generation. Being Self is to learn and develop from languages ( verbal or non-verbal ), thoughts, analyzing every king of knowledges. The goal is to sense our Self and realize the abstract world that runs parallel to ours. The abstract world that formulate from the experience and collective conscious of our ancestors. It’s the ideology that form the fundamental philosophy about the meaning and existing of Self. Once sensing this abstract world, one would appreciate the aesthetic of life.

The organizer will arrange more lecture that acknowledge the social benefit from this exhibition. That is the multipurpose for this work.

UTHIT ATIMANA

Uthit Atimana was born in ChiangMai. He is a keen intellectual and thinker in contemporary art and social media study. He started the “Chiangmai Social Installation” project (1993 – 1996). He was the vice-dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, CMU for the CMU Art Museum (2000-2004) and was the director of the Media Arts and Design Center, CMU](2003-2005). At present he is a board member of the land foundation, a lecturer for the Media Arts and Design Center, CMU and is a PhD fellow of Media Study at the Rajabhat Suan Dusit, Bangkok.
